Since 1989
E&F King & Co., Inc. started in 1834 when Edward and Franklin King formed their company to provide paint, salt, and apothecary chemicals to the growing industrial market of Boston. They went out of business in 90s, however the core of their sales and operations personnel went on to form New England Salt Co. in 1989.
Originally located in downtown Boston at the corner of Milk and India Streets, the construction of the Central Artery in the 1950s took the building by eminent domain and that site is now part of the newly formed Rose F. Kennedy Greenway’s Wharf District. The original taking was to construct the Central Artery elevated highway which was replaced by the massive “Big Dig” project that put the entire highway system underground and returned the land above to a wonderful park area right in the heart of downtown Boston. While the original building from 1834 is long gone and the bricks from it likely bordering Back Bay gardens and sidewalks, our presence in salt has never changed.
Today, our offices are located in Franklin, a suburb of Boston but we still operate our salt stockpiles on the Boston waterfront, just as they have been since 1834. In addition we have other locations in Connecticut in the Port of New Haven, and we package salt products in New York and Massachusetts.
While we are an old part of a modern world, our centuries old ethic of personalized honest business has never left us. If your salt supplier gives you more double talk than straight talk, please contact us and enjoy telephones that are answered by real people and a company whose salt industry knowledge can possibly help you improve your salt supply.
